JEE Advanced 2026: Registration Begins April 2 — 1.8 Lakh Seats, Eligibility, Exam Date Explained

IIT Kanpur, the organising institute for JEE Advanced 2026, has released the registration schedule. The exam will be held on May 18, 2026 in two shifts.

IIT Kanpur, the organising institution for JEE Advanced 2026, has announced that registration for the examination will begin on April 2, 2026 and close on April 10, 2026. The exam will be held on May 18, 2026 in two shifts — Paper 1 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and Paper 2 from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM.

This year, approximately 2.5 lakh candidates who qualify JEE Main 2026 (top 2.5 lakh rank holders) will be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. The cut-off for the General category is expected to be around 88-92 percentile in JEE Main, based on previous years' trends.

A total of 17,385 seats are available across 23 IITs, with IIT Bombay, Delhi, Madras, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Roorkee and Hyderabad being the most sought-after. New IITs including IIT Tirupati, IIT Palakkad and IIT Dharwad have also expanded their seat intake by 15% for 2026.

The registration fee for the General category is Rs 3,500, while SC/ST/PwD candidates and female candidates from all categories pay Rs 1,750. International candidates must pay USD 75. Registration is entirely online at jeeadv.ac.in.

Important dates: Registration closes April 10, admit cards available May 11, results declared June 9, and architecture aptitude test (AAT) on June 15. Seat allotment rounds begin June 20.
