India's hill stations transform dramatically during the monsoon — waterfalls thunder, tea estates turn luminous green and the crowds thin out, making June to September the best time to experience these destinations in their most raw and beautiful form. Here are 10 destinations to consider for your 2026 monsoon escape.

Coorg (Kodagu), Karnataka: Often called the "Scotland of India," Coorg receives 3,000-3,500mm of rainfall annually. The region's 100,000+ acres of coffee and cardamom plantations are at their most aromatic in monsoon. Homestays in Coorg start at Rs 3,500 per night with meals and plantation tours included.

Meghalaya: Home to Cherrapunji and Mawsynram — the wettest places on Earth — Meghalaya's living root bridges, crystal-clear rivers and tribal villages are magnificent in the rains. The newly opened Meghalaya Aerial Tramway offers a bird's-eye view of the Khasi Hills. Entry fee: Rs 250.

Munnar, Kerala: Tea plantations draped in mist, roaring Attukad Waterfalls and the rare Neelakurinji bloom (visible once every 12 years — last seen in 2018 and 2030 is the next cycle, making 2026 a mid-point appreciation year) make Munnar magical. Budget: Rs 4,000-8,000 per night for good resorts.

Spiti Valley, Himachal Pradesh: Unlike the rain-drenched Western Ghats, Spiti is a cold desert beyond the Himalayan rain shadow — ideal for those who want dramatic landscapes without the mud. The Pin Valley National Park has reported record snow leopard sightings in 2026.
